Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae) also called as Crane Flower is a monocotyledonous flowering plant originated from South Africa that resembles brightly coloured birds in flight. This plant grows about 2 m tall, with large and strong leaves set in two positions making a fan-shaped crest. The hard beak-like sheath from which the flower emerges is named as spathe. The spathe is positioned perpendicular to the stem, therefore appears like a bird’s head and beak. The flowers consisting of three bright orange sepals and three purplish-blue petals emerge one at a time from the spathe. Likewise, there are many species in the genus Strelitzia which are also called as Bird of Paradise. I’m herewith presenting some striking pictures of this beautiful flower.
