Alexander McQueen RIP

Woke up this morning to discover the terrible news of Alexander McQueens death. Completely saddened by this... He was one of my favorite designers, a huge inspiration to me especially while I was in fashion school years ago. I was always studying his work and writing about him in school projects, he was so unique and original. I even came face to face with him backstage at an Academy of Art University fashion show, he was the guest speaker. I almost ran right into him, and as soon as I realized Alexander McQueen was standing right in front of me I was so star struck I couldn't even speak. Just stood there, I was so awe-inspired. It was an incredible moment.

I am so very sad the world has lost a remarkable talent, someone who stood out in the fashion world, rebel against convention, a dark star, creating brilliant, beautiful work.

Alexander McQueen. Rest in peace.

While in San Francisco last week I had to stop by the MOMA to check out the Richard Avedon exhibit, definitely amazing, his work was very inspiring, love the fashion  pics he is so famous for!

Echinacea Flower Power

The Echinacea flower is one of my favorites, the colors are brilliant, and best of all they are found all over the place in Portland.  So inspiring!

Green Thumb

Going green is a popular trend for weddings, the Pleated Collar Dress has been created in so many shades from mint to kelly.  Green is one of my personal favorite colors as it works so well with bouquet pairings.  Flowers are definitely high on my list of favorite things, if I wasn't a dress designer I would spend my days in a flower nursery!

May Flowers, still rain showers

I'm now in Oregon and the most noticeable thing is all the pretty pink trees and tulips.  It's really pretty here, I'm still trying to make a bit of time to explore but as I'm in the middle of bridal season it's been hard to get out.  I've only been in Oregon for a week exactly and today I  was able to take a quick walk to the store once the rain stopped, here are some pics from my walk:

YSL at the DeYoung

If you haven't had a chance to stop by the De Young Museum to check out the YSL exhibit, do so as soon as possible, it's going on til April so you have do some time, I'm off to check it out (so excited!)....

It's all about the one-shoulder

The one shoulder dress continues to be a big trend for spring '09, it's a refreshing way to have a bit of asymmetry incorporated into the look whether it's draped, color-blocked or sheared.

Central Park Part 2

Back to my NYC trip, I ventured further into Central Park going north this time past 78th street, I came across this fabulous tree as I walked into the park.
This is The Lake, a very peaceful walk, I loved seeing the people rowing their boats around the lake....Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite children's stories so of course I had to visit the statues

This is Angel of the Waters, a very cool statue, I would love to use this as a photo shoot location for future collections....
So many dramatic statues throughout the park...

The 10 cent Designer

Check out The 10 cent designer's flickr site, I love the vibrant pictures, and the combination of the beautiful background mixed with fun outfits and a quirky twist of humor. Very inspiring!

Viktor & Rolf

I'm always fascinated by what Viktor & Rolf come up with each season, they are definitely one of the most visionary designers, I always remember the coat with the rows and rows of collars they did years ago, or the lights and speakers rigged on the models shoulders for Fall 07. This season they did something new; a virtual one model show starring Shalom Harlow, this is a 7 minute video seen on their website, inspired by Audrey Hepburn in "Funny Face". There are at least 3 Shaloms on the runway at the same time. Love it!

5th Avenue

I finally made my way to Henri Bendel's while I was in New York. It has been my mission to go there for over a decade! It wasn't quite what I expected, but I definitely found a few inspirations (to say the least). Henri Bendel's of course is well known for the new, the latest and the unique in fashion. However, most of the labels I came across are available in SF, so I didn't exactly discover too much that I didn't already know about, a few of my favorites: DVF, Black Halo, Missoni, McQ, Tibi. The selection was amazing though and can't be beat outside of Manhattan.

I spent a couple of hours in Bergdorf's, it was definitely like being in a beautiful museum looking at exquisite creations, huge selection of designer fashions.
I had a Breakfast at Tiffany's moment at Tiffany's (if only I was wearing my LBD), I so wanted to get in a cab and shout "Grand Central Station, and step on it!" I'm sure the driver wouldn't get it though...

So of course I had to visit Grand Central Station. It was certainly grand! I felt like I was transported to the 60's. So nostalgic, and the architecture was so inspirational!
